My Money Tradeoffs

Contrary to what you might have heard, the “right financial decision” isn’t the same for everyone. Each of us have a different set of priorities and goals, which often result in different decisions in our personal finances. While our libraries may be filled with “one size fits all” approaches 1 and indeed such approaches may get you directionally closer to where you want to go , we believe that the most effective financial plan for you starts with…you. We hope this site helps you make the financial trade-offs that are right for you.

The “blinding flash of the obvious” is that personal financial planning should be “personal”.

Our goal here is to help you first understand what you value (your personal goals) and then to provide you with information and perspective you need to make informed and intentional personal trade-offs on your financial journey. There are a lot of very detailed subject matter experts out there. I won’t attempt to “eat an elephant” in one bite, but I do feel it is helpful to put in context the various topics related to our personal financial decisions. 2From where the money comes from (income, savings, investment) to where it goes (spending across its various categories)

  • Chart your financial road map
Knowing where you want to go is the first step to getting there! Understanding and setting your own goals and priorities is an oft neglect first step. Whether you are just starting your financial journey or stopping to ask for directions along the way 3 yes, I realize that may not apply to all of my readers , this “roadmap” helps you map the way to your goals.
  • Weigh your own personal financial trade-offs to make investment and spending decisions that are right for you
Here we’ll walk through the various ways in which we earn, invest, and spend our money and break down the trade-offs that we’re making to allow you to find opportunities to do more (whether that is choosing a cell phone plan or buying a house).

Whether you are looking for a step-by-step walk through of the process, or just want to see if there are opportunities for you to optimize your personal trade-offs, we’ve got a next step for you.
